Spell to Write and Read Phonics Training…How Does it Fit?
Please watch this short video (YouTube 2:20 minutes). Note: SWR Training has retired as an SWR trainer, so find Seminar dates here in WISE SPELLING and in BHI Books (Wanda Sanseri's website)
Every grammar and elementary school in America needs teachers of spelling and reading. Are American universities and colleges producing teacher graduates who are strongly trained in phonics and spelling as the basis for language arts? The solid scientific evidence shows that it is needed, but it is not happening:
In considering this overwhelming evidence in well informed reports, it seems that every university would be formatting the needed training into standardized university credit hours for elementary education majors and even early childhood students, but very few are.
Spell to Write and Read SWR is developed by author Wanda Sanseri. She designed a plan for homeschoolers and expanded it for classroom teachers, staying true to solid spelling teaching principles. Mrs. Sanseri developed a stand-alone curriculum with detailed teacher guides.
The Wise List is a 2000-word grouping which is an expansion of the most common English words. Students study words in a sight-last and sounds-first plan which engages their brains and bodies in logic and order. Teachers learn how to present sounds that build into words in time-tested methods that are most effective for their students.
How do these teachers accomplish so much in a short time? Basic classes by the author and chosen trainers have been offered and honed for decades, with advanced classes also available. Think of it as an abbreviated, yet cost-effective, college course in the lost art of teaching English spelling!
SWR Endorsed Trainers across the United States schedule seminars lasting 2 to 5 days in various states {online seminars were added in 2020}. In only several days of training, classroom teachers fill in English language “holes” left gaping from their own education and reading classes. Teacher attendees study phonics philosophy, practice application of everyday teaching activities, and learn the time-tested presentations of kinesthetic writing, sounding out words, and building student books. With a huge emphasis on sound-to-symbol teaching, teachers observe correct modeling of phonogram pronunciation, letter formation, and reference page building.
After seminars, trainees have access to social media support groups for SWR users, including one devoted to classroom teachers. Seminar leaders provide contact information so that Q&A options are readily available.
SWR methods are effective: What is Wrong and How Can We Fix it?
SWR methods are classical: Classically Unique!
SWR methods are cutting edge for the classroom, yet they are truly back to basics.
Modern teachers have deficits in the area of teaching reading from the beginning, but it CAN be remedied.
Instead of returning to college to address the issue in a semester-by-semester manner of 2 years or more, the deficit may be repaired in a period of 4 to 5 days, at a reasonable cost.
Attendees who complete SWR seminars are well-trained teachers that are ready to go the distance to give children the tools they need for spelling, writing, and reading!
